GPA scale

The GPA scale gives a number of grade points to each letter grade. The top is 4.0, for an A.

The table on this page shows the letter, the percent range and the grade points. Use the converter to change a percent to a GPA.

This is the common 4.0 scale with plus and minus grades. Your school may use a different scale.

How to change a percent to a GPA

Find the row of the table that holds your percent. Read the grade points in that row.

For example, 88 percent is in the B+ row. A B+ is 3.3 grade points.

A percent between two rows goes to the lower row. So 92.9 percent is an A-, not an A.

To find a GPA for many courses, use the GPA calculator. It does this step for each course.

Other scales

Some schools have no plus or minus grades. On such a scale a B is 3.0 for the whole range from 80 to 89 percent.

Some schools use a 5.0 scale for weighted grades. Read the policy of your school.
